Project: Whole Space Automation

We transformed this 20-year-old, 6,500-sq-ft North Carolina home into a fully automated indoor and outdoor space covering all of the 2.2-acre property.

Challenge

The space had no infrastructure, no floor plan, limited power, and minimal wiring. We had to create a space from the ground up, taking into account the power and wiring needs, as well as the BTU requirements for the equipment. We had to build an equipment room to hold the rack and necessary equipment, and install a pipe to remove the heat from the room. Our team had to plan and design a whole–space automation system for all the areas of the space.

Solution

This space featured extensive indoor and outdoor automation, including human-centric lighting, rack, surveillance cameras and enterprise Wi-Fi indoor and outdoor all throughout the property. One can walk in and out of the house and still be connected to the system. Access points were placed throughout the interior and exterior of the home.

The Lutron system controls the Ketra lights as well as unlimited control of the multiple subsystems throughout the big property.

Audio multizone speakers were placed throughout the ceiling as well as in the master bath, kitchen, great room, office, seating area, deck, and garage.

One can walk in and out of the house and still be connected to the system. Access points were placed throughout the interior and exterior of the home.

Breakdown

Lutron products: Lutron HQ-LV21 Processor Panel; Lutron QSX Processor; Lutron HomeWorks Wireless Keypads as well as Lutron Sivoia QS Triathlon Roller Shades and Lutron Drapery Track QS Wireless Ketra S30 Tunable LED S30 Lamps; Lutron/Ketra: Clear Connect Gateway–Type X ceiling-mounted device. These were integrated with the Samsung TV, Sonos and Coastal Source speakers, HVAC, surveillance and main control subsystems in the property.

The traditional lights in the recessed cans with Ketra’s S38 lamps were overhauled with a LED retrofit solution that can be wirelessly controlled and individually addressable through Ketra’s accompanying software. The switch locations were then reconfigured with Lutron HomeWorks Wireless’ seeTouch Keypads for full control of the space.
