An Interior Designer’s 5-Step System to a Client’s Peace of Mind

Interior Design System

When you meet an interior designer, the first thing you usually ask them is if they have a portfolio. Maritza Capiro goes beyond that. She offers a five-step system that gives her clients a comprehensive approach to her interior design services in Coral Gables.

You would think having a system is standard procedure but not many spell it out like she does it. The steps are called Discovery Call, Initial Consultation, Service Agreement, and Design Presentation. In the Discovery Call, you’ll find yourself talking about your interior design project, budget, vision and timelines in detail. It’s separate from the one-hour Initial Consultation, when she wants to hear you talk about your needs and expectations.

Capiro even offers a one hour Pick-My-Brain session conducted via Zoom or over the phone which serves as the perfect opportunity for you to get answers and guidance when it comes to the most challenging design dilemmas. She gives free access to her free interior design guides.

Her system is all designed to make you figure out two things: what uniquely fits your life and how that system will increase the value of your space. She is able to make her system work for her and her clients, because she sees the whole picture from the construction down to fabric selections, thanks to her long-standing relationships with general contractors, electricians and landscapers, even smart technology companies.

It’s refreshing to see someone talk about how they work instead of just showing their work. One could say that because Capiro has already done amazing work for many years, having a great system is easy to add in – or flipping it around, her system is what makes her interior design work stand out more. Whichever the case may be, she has developed relationships that have made her one of the top interior designers in South Florida.

She offers the following services:

  • Full Service Interior Design
  • In-Home Consultation
  • Kitchens and Bathrooms
  • New Construction, Additions and Renovations Consulting
  • Space Planning
  • Furniture and Accessories
  • Window Treatments
  • Wallcoverings
  • Floor Coverings and Rug Design
  • Lighting Design
  • Fabrics and Upholstery
  • Custom Cabinetry
  • Project Management

Capiro packs a lot of work into her system, as it encompasses everything that falls between creating the designs and putting on those final touches. Breaking it down, this includes the design creation, construction, approvals on all hard and soft goods, purchasing and procurement, installation, the refinement and the eventual project launch.

“There is also the added benefit of having a detail-oriented, single point of contact and project management from A-Z,” she says.

The entire cost of a project is provided when the needed floor plans, elevations, relevant custom drawings and a budget for furnishings and fixtures have been agreed upon.

Both beautiful and practical

Capiro leans toward the “classic” and “forever in vogue” in her interior design choices – both beautiful and practical. She says she always makes it a point to harness unique individual pieces that still come together to form a pleasing composition.

In one living room, she might set the tone for an elegant interior aesthetic – subtle neutral hues complimented with colorful accents here and there, then add in the piece de resistance – a unique cascading pattern that mirrors the shimmering waterfront within her eyesight.

“My client wished for a warm palette and it made sense to have a neutral foundation with pops of color for interest,” she says.

This accentuated the masculine vibe she needed to capture throughout the home. The result was less fuss in the furnishings, which created an overall effect that’s sleek and stylish.

Capiro’s use of striking design choices include shapes.

In one dining room, her chosen shape was a circle — from the chandelier, which features multi-level circular lights banded with brass shades to the spherical sconces on the mirror wall. The dining chairs have gently sloped arms with a sculptural centerpiece on the table to round the theme of arcs and curves.

Overall, Capiro is more inclined to create clean modern spaces that invite you in and have a mix of both the exterior and the interior.

“I want a house that looks good now and will look good for years to come,” Capiro says.
